1350: when the 90 minutes are over, there’s still 1350 left to play

Darren Bent wears Umbro Diamond Icons

Away from the 90 on the pitch, there’s still 1350 minutes left in the day, time that is influenced and inspired by football, but spreads into other things. Whether it’s music, other sport, gaming – we all have something we do to pass the time until those moments on the pitch roll round again.

That’s what we’re looking to celebrate with the launch of our new Diamond Icons range. A collection of great products that are perfect to wear at the game and in the 1350 away from the match, Diamond Icons is inspired by the iconic ‘taping’ that featured on some classic kits in the 1970s.

We know that a lot of us will do similar things with our 1350, but we wanted something a little different to help us reveal the idea. That’s why we’ve gone with tattoos.

Love them or loath them, but tattoos are a big part of the 1350 for both footballers and fans. That’s why we’ve spoken to two big tattoo enthusiasts about their artwork and why they chose their particular designs. Aston Villa and England star Darren Bent features in the video above alongside Peru and Fiorentina star Juan Vargas, talking about why they love going under the needle.

Over the next couple of weeks, we’re going to be exploring the world of tattoos, the people that get them, and how they connect with other aspects of their 1350. We’ll also be taking a closer look at the items in our Diamond Icons range, and we might have a competition or two as well, so you best stay glued here to the Umbro blog and website for the latest.

Before all that though, see if you can answer this question: What do you do with your 1350?

Everyone’s Twittering about DB’s new boots

DBTheTruth

This afternoon, Sunderland’s Darren Bent will debut a very special pair of Umbro Specialis in the game against West Ham. As you can see from the pictures featured here, Darren’s Specialis feature the logo from social networking site Twitter, plus the name @DBTheTruth, the name that the striker goes by online.

Here at Umbro we designed the boots for Darren after we realised what a massive fan he was of Twitter – he posts on the site a few times every day, and often takes pictures of things that catch his attention and uploads these as well. At the shoot for the pictures featured here, Darren snapped three different designs that we’d taken along for another pair of boots we’re designing for him, and asked his Twitter followers to pick out the one they liked best. He’ll wear the dynamite boots in another upcoming match.

Darren is the highest profile Premiership player to regularly use Twitter, something which famously got him into trouble earlier this year when comments he posted over his protracted move to Sunderland became public. He’s not the only footballer to Tweet though – two weeks ago, Darren was joined by Aston Villa goalscorer James Collins in celebrating scoring the winner through his Twitter posts. If you want to discover which other footballers are Twittering on a regular basis, we’ve collected the best ones that we can find here.

Goog Luck Lads!!!

Just like anyone in the office will tell you, it’s great to see our players doing well and coming through the ranks in the international setup. So it was good to see this shot of Michael Mancienne alongside John Terry, Darren Bent and Curtis Davies in the paper this morning.

Michael has worn umbro boots for 2 years now and is currently wearing the SX Flare boot.

Best of luck for tonight lads!!
