Back Of The Net: the finest football things on the web this week

There’s a million and one websites and blogs about football out there; some good, some bad, some terrible. Here’s a few of the better things we’ve unearthed this week.

Would you like to watch a match from this fetching red and yellow cage? The away end at Poland’s Miejski Klub Sportowy Znicz Pruszków was picked up by footballspotter.com. It puts Blackpool’s infamous open-ended away stand to shame, and is light years away from the snug all-seater stadiums that Premiership fans will be used to.

Such facilities might not be so shocking to all the amateur footballers out there, who have to deal with substandard facilities on a weekly basis. Campaigners Club Website want to highlight the shambolic pitches and changing rooms across the country in a bid to force an improvement. They want you to send in pictures of the worst facilities you have to put up with to their Facebook and Twitter pages.

There’s an interesting piece on the big Lancashire derby taking place this weekend over at twohundredpercent.net. It’s the first time that Blackburn and Burnley have played each other in a long time – the last time they met in the top flight The Beatles were releasing Rubber Soul and Revolver. Burnley fans are having to go to quite lengthy measures to get to Ewood Park though, as the blog explains.

Staying in the north west, there’s an interesting blog on Preston North End over at the BBC Football site. Not just of interest to North Enders, it’s an interesting read on life outside the top flight, and surviving in both a financial and footballing sense against the odds.

One of the top contributors to our Flickr stream, flicktokick, pointed us in the direction of a great clip of England winning the World Cup. Alas, it was the Subbuteo World Cup, and the winner sounds suspiciously un-English, but you can’t question his excitement at clinching the top prize:

And finally, we thought it’d be nice to pick out some of the best pics that have recently been posted in the Flickr group Football In Britain. It’s a great collection of shots that capture the atmosphere and excitement of British football brilliantly.

Blackburn Rovers Ladies Training

On a cold, wet night in Blackburn, two of our designers Dan and Lee visited a Blackburn Rovers ladies training session. They spent the evening talking to the players from the 1st team and reserves and watching them train.  This insight is used when developing their new kits.  Here are some of their pics:
