Ireland

When the England home shirt was unveiled last year, many people wondered whether the Tailored By Umbro concept would just be a one-off, or whether it’d spread out to the other kits that Umbro make. Since then, Manchester City, a number of Peruvian teams and the new England Away have all used the Tailored concept to excellent effect, producing stylish shirts that reference a team’s history whilst using the most up-to-date technology.

Now, the Republic Of Ireland have unveiled their latest home shirt, and as you can see, they’ve used the same concept to terrific effect. Choosing a rich, deep emerald ‘St Patrick’s’ green to reflect the strong Irish pride and tradition, Umbro have also added a subtle gold trim to the FAI crest and to the seam on the shirt. As you can see in the pictures here, the shirt is also full of other discreet stylistic touches – the stitched Eire on the back collar, for instance – that make it an impressively effortless classic. The kit, which has been unveiled in Ireland today, will be worn for the first time in a friendly against Brazil at Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium on March 2nd, and even up against the might of the samba boys, we think that the “boys in green” will still be the smartest team on the pitch. The kit will go on sale on March 11th, but you can pre-order it now at www.faishop.com.

Ah, the old “we’ve run out of new ideas so we’ll just recycle some old designs and call them ‘retro’, even though they looked pretty crap the first time around” approach. Gotta love marketing folks.

    Numpty seems an appropriate name…

I love it, personally. I’ve been wondering when we were going to see a v-necked shirt in the tailored line. Just a shame it’s sullied by that sponsors logo.

I really wish that Umbro still made United’s kits, by the way.

As an England fan I’d say it’s a lot better than both our home & away shirts. The track suit top looks great too.

    Wow! It’s fantastic.

I was just saying to a friend the other day, “wouldn’t it be great if umbro did a new Ireland kit in the same style as Man City & England”…& here it is now!

It will look much better during the international matches when the eircom logo is replaced by a number…just a shame that we can’t buy the kit without it.

But, it’s a fantastic kit. The first Ireland jersey I will buy in a long time. Hopefully the away kit will revert back to this style too, that off white of old would be great.

really looks great, wonderful colour and design but from a fan’s point of view it’s a pity about the logo slap-bang in the middle, can we not do it like Germany and make the logo smaller while moving it to just under the right shoulder.

Really neat kit, as both the British are. I just wish Umbro could come back and sponsor Inter from Brazil again, as you did in the 80′s and 90′s. Our shirts would be the best.

superb kit, great colour, really retro. only 2 complaints – that crest is AWFUL can we have the ’70′s-style shamrock crest back please, and that ALSO bloody eircom logo is outrageous, eircom dont pay me to display their name abroad, its a blatant case of taking advantage of loyal fans AGAIN.

    Hi,
I was wondering if anyone knows what the font is that is used in the “Tailored by Umbro” text on the label of the shirts.
    Thanks,
