The Design Room: MCFC Kit part 5
As promised, here is David Blanch on the City crest and how it has been re-mastered:
“Every stitch on the crest has been specifically drawn. From the beginning, we knew we wanted to create the best looking City crest ever. The aim was to make the crest look so technically crafted, using the most technical machines available to us but combine that with the sensibility that is associated with craftsmanship. What we wanted to move away from was making the crest too flat; we needed to breathe life back into the crest and make it really stand out from the shirt. What we have managed to do, and I love this, is that every single kit has a piece of the home shirt embedded into the crest. The true City blue, which really resonates with the club, is in every single shirt.
With the crest, we have embedded it onto the shirt. Like I said, each stitch has been carefully considered. For example, just take a look at the detail in the ship: to help define it better, a different stitch direction was used on every section, from the sail to the hull to each mast. That’s just one section of the crest. We’ve done it in a way that looks quite three-dimensional and it really does lift off the shirt, and as I said before: the most important thing on a kit is the crest.”
Just in case you were still questioning the effort that has gone into the crest:
“We always spend time on the crest but I must say we have spent almost as much time on this crest than the rest of the kit.”
There you have it the definitive explanation of the new City strips. Interesting stuff, hey?

Looks good. It’s a shame your parent company doesn’t go to this effort for the other Manchester club. United’s crests are now cheap and tacky looking and only the red devil is embroidered.
