It was 56 years ago today…

One of the most important moments in sporting history took place. In the British AAA Championships at Iffley Road Track at Oxford University, after years of training and near misses, Roger Bannister made history by running a mile in under 4 minutes. This was a feat that had challenged the world’s best athletes for many years, and stood as a marker of athletic excellence for many years afterwards.

So why is it important to us? Roger Bannister did it wearing Umbro apparel. Congratulations once again to Sir Roger Bannister for this terrific moment, which stands up there with England‘s win in 1966 as one of our proudest moments, as a company and as English sporting fans!
