We’re into the closing stages of the Decade Of Kits competition now, with the six remaining kits facing off this week for a place in next week’s three man final. We’ve paired the remaining shirts off against what we think are their closest competitors, with the two remaining England shirts first to do battle. Do you prefer the innovative design of the 2001 effort, or the sleek, pared-down look of the latest England shirt? Vote to keep your favourite in now!

Thanks once again to John Devlin, who has created these terrific images of the kits for us. John is the author of the True Colours books and the website www.truecoloursfootballkits.com. Copies of the books can be purchased directly from his website.

But the 2009 shirt has no history. A lot of history involved in making it, but it’s achieved only qualification to WC 2010 so far! The 2001 shirt: Owen’s hatrick against ze Germans and Becks’ last gasp free-kick against Greece. Plus, i remember when it came out being knocked back by the red stripe through the crest, it was pretty radical back then.
