A Decade Of Kits: the result

‘And so this is Christmas, and what have you done?’ The answer for a lot of you will be – vote in your droves for the final of A Decade Of Kits. We’ve been absolutely overwhelmed with the amount of votes we’ve had for this – but we also realise that there was a lot of internet organisation and sneaky skullduggery afoot, from both sides. Morecambe fans, if you’re going to rally your fans through ShrimpsVoices, that’s fine, but getting Man United fans to vote against their rivals City? That’s low. Perhaps you thought you were the Rage Against The Machine to City’s Joe McElderry? One Shrimps fan even sank low enough to admit that “I even claimed to be a …errr… Man Utd supporter. Oh the shame.”
Perhaps you should have asked your United supporting pals to be a bit more subtle about it as well? Posting comments proclaiming their love for United is a bit of a clue that they’re not really voting for the kit that they like! Anyway, at the end of the day it’s only a bit of fun, and we can only commend your powers of persuasion across the internet. So, with no further ado we’d like to announce the winner of A Decade Of Kits, which is…
MORECAMBE!
Yep, as you can see from the results below, the League Two team pulled off the win, by a measly six votes. The kit – which Morecambe wore when they won the Play Offs in 2007, gaining entry to the Football League for the first time in their history – obviously means a lot to Shrimps fans. So congratulations from us all here at Umbro!
Which of these shirts is your Kit Of The Decade?
- B) Morecambe (47%, 1,135 Votes)
- C) Manchester City (47%, 1,129 Votes)
- A) England (6%, 329 Votes)
Total Voters: 2,423
Finally, thanks once again to John Devlin, who provided all the images throughout the Decade Of Kits poll. John is the author of the True Colours books and the website www.truecoloursfootballkits.com. Copies of the books can be purchased directly from his website – a perfect post-Christmas present!

A vote for all those smaller clubs who have to live in the shadows of much wealthier clubs where the only thing that matters is money.
It’s just possible that other football followers did actually think that the Morecambe kit was far superior to that of City.

Its not “foul play”. Its common sense and the ways in which we got people to vote were very smart from some of the fans on Shrimps Voices. Well Done MORECAMBE!

As I said previously if only polls like this could be a true vote on which is the nicest kit.
I’d argue ours was one of the best on the list – striking colours, well designed and looks good on the pitch.
But you know only too well that ANY web vote will always expose itself to manipulation.
Also – in any web or phone vote you care to mention – there is always a massive element of voting for ‘your’ entry -whether or not the entrant actually deserves the accolade.
In this case it was simply a matter of whether or not any of the teams involved ‘cottoned on’ to it.
The only way a little team like Morecambe stood any chance at all of winning this poll was to organise the troops. Otherwise you may as well just give it to England or one of the bigger clubs.
Once City flagged it up on their BlueMoon board (fair enough BTW) it was David v Goliath and we had to think of ways to get more votes in or just accept being bullied out of it.
Anyway, thanks for setting up this comp – it’s been fun. We have been interested in it right from the start and have helped boost the hits massively for weeks so our victory, IMO, is justified.
Good luck to City in the proper competitions this season, though. Sincerely.

Well we did it, the best looking kit won…. The city kit was too simple and the england kit had nothing special.
Well done to city for trying to beat the underdogs, but as always we never give up.
Good luck for the rest of the season

I would have thought it fairly obvious that the likes of “Irish Devil”, “Man U Forever”, “Cantona 7″, “CROYDON_RED”, “brighton_RED_since_99″ etc (the ones who were “Posting comments proclaiming their love for United”) were City fans having a dig at United, wouldn’t you? Six of one, half a dozen of the other…
Like Glen Cooper said, any internet polls that involve football ends up in a “my club is better than yours” campaign anyway, so it was always going to be a pointless exercise. Does anyone at Umbro think the best kit won?

I was the one who put it up on Bluemoon and I did it because it was the only way to get the best kit there win it, in my honest opinion even the England kit looks better. (only my opinion, don’t kill me now) I wouldn’t have done it if you hadn’t urged bloody United fans to vote. Like Umbro themselves said … bit low, don’t you think? Anyway, congrats and thanks to the Morecambe fans wishing us well for the season. The competition was a good idea though.
Very much awaiting my lovely Christmas present now – the Black/White/Silver Specialis, to which I actually haven’t seen any “promo” of some kind. Available only at one place on the net too. Guess that makes them somewhat limited then which is not bad in my view.
Anyway, Merry Christmas to Umbro!
