With the Noughties soon to come to a close, we’re excited to be looking back at Umbro’s shirt designs over the past ten years. There’s been some pretty exciting developments in shirt design over the past decade, and we’ll be asking you to vote season by season to pick out the finest Umbro shirt of the last ten years. Along the way, we’ll be talking to the people involved – designers, players and pundits – in order to assess the Noughties as a footballing decade, and to look forward and see what the future has in mind.

For the poll, we’ll be posting different seasons up everyday, and all you have to do is vote for your favourite. The winners will then be paired off against each other until we have a winner. To keep it simple, we’ve picked some of the most recognisable Umbro shirts, but if you know of a better one which we haven’t included, let us know about it – there’s space for a wildcard entry along the way.

So, let’s kick it off with the 2000-01 season: Man Utd won their third consecutive Premiership title, Liverpool did the FA, League and UEFA Cup treble, and George Burley won Manager Of The Year for guiding Ipswich to fifth place. Three Cities – Manchester, Bradford and Coventry – were relegated from the Premiership, while Bolton, Blackburn and Fulham came up, and have stayed up since. Sven Goran Eriksson became England’s first foreign manager, and David Beckham was made captain. Joleon Lescott and Peter Crouch made their league debuts, and Rio Ferdinand moved to Leeds United for £18m. But what was happening with the shirts?

Thanks must go to John Devlin, who has created these terrific images of the kits for us. John is the author of the True Colours books and the website www.truecoloursfootballkits.com . Copies of the book can be purchased directly from his website.

Take a look at the shirts here and then vote for your favourite!
