Terrace Tweets Returns For England vs USA

Kicking off England‘s campaign in South Africa on Saturday, the match against the USA is easily one of the highlights of the tournament’s first round. Not only will it be a tight match, with both teams favourites to progress from the group, but there’s a whole load of cultural interest to go alongside it. Whether it’s hamburgers versus all-day breakfasts, tea versus coffee, Ricky Gervais versus Steve Carrell or David Frost versus Richard Nixon, for a long time America and England have been best friends and rivals simultaneously.

With that in mind, we thought that this was the perfect game for our Terrace Tweets site, which we debuted at this year’s FA Cup Final. Measuring the amount of Twitter chatter around each team, Terrace Tweets shows us who wins off the pitch as well as on it. If you send a tweet from now until the end of the match mentioning either England or the USA (or America!), it’ll be measured by Terrace Tweets, and will help your team to gain possession. We’re sure that plenty of people will be talking about the game on both sides of the Atlantic, bigging up the home of Hollywood, the Wild West and baseball, or the place that gave the world cricket, the Lake District and James Bond.

You can also see all the pictures that people are sending, which players are generating the most interest, what we’re saying here at Umbro, plus all the vital stats about the game itself. It’s the perfect accompaniment to watching the game, keeping you in the loop with what everyone is saying.

So what are you waiting for? Terrace Tweets is live now, so take a look here, and start telling us who you’re cheering on!

Terrace Tweets: relive the Cup Final

We’re all agreed that last Saturday’s FA Cup Final was one of the best we’ve seen in recent years, with two missed penalties, a whole bunch of posts beings rattled and the debut of Umbro’s new Neo ball. It was also exciting for us as it was the first time we revealed our Terrace Tweets project, a new way to watch the big game through Twitter mentions for each team and stats around the game.

Terrace Tweets was a great success for us, with loads of you logging on to check it out, and a whole host of pictures and comments flowing from Twitter onto the site. There’s one cool aspect of the site which we haven’t mentioned yet though…

If you log on to Terrace Tweets now, you can relive the whole Cup Final experience in just 90 seconds, and get a glimpse of how the chatter around each team switched dramatically as the match went on. It’s a great way of going back to Saturday’s action and going through the highs and lows once again. Take a look here, click on ‘Replay Match’ and let us know what you think!

We’re looking to open up Terrace Tweets for more big matches in the future, so keep your eyes peeled for more chances to experience this great new way to watch the game!

Keep Up With The FA Cup Action Thanks To Umbro’s Terrace Tweets

This Saturday, one of the showpiece events in English football takes place, as the FA Cup Final sponsored by E.On kicks off at Wembley. Here at Umbro, we’re pretty excited about the game, and not just because it’s the first time that our fantastic new NeoPro ball will be used in a match. We’re also looking forward to the debut of our Terrace Tweets match platform.

What’s Terrace Tweets then? It’s an idea that we’ve worked on with our friends at Rattle, that allows you to keep up with what everyone is saying about the match on Saturday afternoon. Alongside all the vital statistics from the game – teams, possession, cards, goals – we’ll be tracking what teams and players people are talking about on Twitter, and charting who is ‘winning’ in terms of who is being mentioned the most.

So if everyone is talking about Chelsea or John Terry, that’ll give the Blues a big push, whereas if David James and Portsmouth are getting all the attention, then Pompey will be on top. Any mentions of the FA Cup will also be picked up and appear on the Terrace Tweets page, so if you’re a neutral who wants to get involved with all the talk around the big game, you still can. It’s the perfect way to keep track of what’s happening in the Cup Final if you can’t watch it, or the best way to get more from the match if you’re sat in front of the TV.

So how do you get involved? It’s simple, just head over to the special Terrace Tweets site over at Umbro.com. There you’ll be able to watch the stats battle it out, and keep up with everything that’s happening with the game, and also keep an eye on what the ‘experts’ here at Umbro are saying! If you want to get involved, just tweet a message with your support for either of the teams involved, and you’ll be adding to whole Terrace Tweets experience.

The site is live now and picking up tweets from all over about the FA Cup, and the possession battle will kick into force as soon as the match kicks off on Saturday. So what are you waiting for? Head over to Terrace Tweets and get your voice heard!
