Umbro Geometra: new year, new look for our boots

Umbro Black and Green Geometra Football Boots

Seen on the feet of top stars such as Joe Hart and Jordan Henderson, these new colourways for the Umbro Geometra have given the boots a fresh look as we head into 2012. The Geometra has proved to be very popular since it was launched last year, thanks to innovative features such as the memory foam pass pad on the instep to aid control. The boot is designed for the player in the midst of the action, looking to control the game and provide that incisive pass.

They’ll be looking good as well, thanks to the new black and green colourway pictured above. There’s also a sharp white and red new colourway that’s made its debut on the pitch, keep your eyes peeled for more appearances this weekend in all the big games! Both colourways are on sale on Saturday January 14th, check out Umbro.com for more details. There’s more pictures of both FG and SG versions of the boots over on our Flickr page as well, take a look!

Geometra: Keep Calm And Kick It Over

Word has reached us from far flung lands of a sports star making a big mark in some Umbro Geometra boots, although we think some of this story has been lost in translation, as it doesn’t sound quite right. American football star Matt Prater plays for the Denver Broncos, and he’s the toast of the team at the moment after he scored what was described to us as: “a 59 yard field goal to send the game to overtime and a 51 yarder to win it IN overtime”.

We’ve fed this into our UmbroTranslate machine, and we think that Matt has scored a screamer to equalise in the last minute of a cup tie, and then bagged another in extra time to win it for the Broncos. All whilst wearing some Umbro Geometra boots. Nice work Matt! Some things are puzzling us though…

First of all, in the picture above, one of Matt’s team mates is clearly handling the ball, surely the ref should’ve spotted that? And doesn’t he look a little bit, well, overdressed for a game of footy? I know it’s winter and Denver can get pretty chilly, but surely a pair of gloves and a snood would do the job? Anyway, well done to Matt, the Geometras look great, bet you were over the moon. Maybe someone should try and snap him up in the January transfer window?

Geometra: a new colourway for our visionary boots

Umbro Geometra Pro Football Boots

Designed for the visionary player, the Umbro Geometra boot has proved to be a great success since it was unveiled earlier this year. With a special memory foam pass pad on the instep to aid control, plus a silicon-bonded grip zone on the toe to help your touch, the Geometra has been tailored for the player who is in the midst of the action, controlling the game and making that killer pass.

Now, we’ve given the Geometra a fresh feel with this black and vivid blue colourway, which will be worn for the first time this weekend as we return to domestic football action. Seen on players like Jordan Henderson and Jonas Gutierrez, the Geometra is now available to buy in the new colourway directly from the Umbro online store. There’s also a full range of Geometra training gear available, including tee shirts, shin pads and bags, all designed to give you a sharp look on the pitch or on the training ground.

Umbro Football Boots: Tailored By England

Different people need different football boots, depending on the style of football they play, something we’ve decided to celebrate in these great images. All three of Umbro’s boots have their own particular attributes, but they’re united by one ethos: Tailored by England. Wherever you wear them in the world, you can be sure that Umbro’s boots will offer you craft, football insight and tailoring expertise.

Each of our boots is designed with different types of players in mind, so the main question to ask is: which one are you?

Umbro Geometra - Keep Calm And Pass It On

For the visionary, commanding player, the Geometra offers fantastic comfort and special attributes that aid control and passing. We’ve given a cheeky twist to an iconic phrase to capture the Geometra’s talents with ‘Keep Calm And Pass It On’.

Umbro Speciali - an icon of quality

The Speciali is perhaps our best known boot, and it’s clear why. Guaranteed craft and quality comes in every pair, which is why iconic players such as Alan Shearer and Michael Owen have always relied on the Speciali. Crafted from the highest quality leather, the Speciali has been given it’s own version of the royal warrant, a stamp of quality assurance that all football fans will understand!

Umbro GT - Who Dares Wins

The bright and brash member of the Umbro football boot family, the GT is for the daring player who likes to stand out on the pitch. Available in some eye-catching colourways, the Umbro GT is our lightest ever boot, crafted from a special micro-fibre for speed without compromising on quality. This colourful take on the phrase ‘Who Dares Wins’, created by designer Ben Eine, captures the Umbro GT’s talents perfectly.

Three different boots, for all the different types of players: Tailored By England. See Umbro.com for more details.

Geometra star Jordan Henderson speaks out

Jordan Henderson was already well know to football fans, but he became the man of the moment last week after a massive transfer from Sunderland to Liverpool, before debuting Umbro’s Geometra boots at the U21 Euro finals on Sunday. Before he set off for the championship in Denmark, we sat down with the young midfielder to ask him about his new boots, his tips for young players and his England ambitions. Here’s what he had to say…

What have been your first impressions of the Geometra boots?
‘I first saw the boots a couple of months ago, and I’ve been trying them out over the last week or so, in training. They’re really nice, they’re comfortable and really easy to wear. I’m just looking forward to wearing them in a game now and really testing them out. I wore the Speciali before and you can tell that these are a very different boot. The leather is different, there’s a bit more give in it.’

What kind of boot are you looking for as a player?
‘Comfort is always the main thing for me, as you cover a lot of ground in my position. You feel comfortable in them, and you almost forget that you’re wearing them, and you can just get on with playing your game. Control and passing are obviously something that comes from the player rather than the boot, but there can be certain elements that help this, and that comes back to the comfort again.

What advice would you give to a young player who wants to play that box-to-box midfield role?
‘Advice for a player in my position is just to enjoy it, to play with no fear and just express yourself. You’ve got to work on all areas of your technique as well, as you’re going to be expected to pass, shoot, tackle, everything. If there was one area that I’d like to improve in my game, it’d be getting into the box and finishing, getting a few more goals. I’ve been working on that a lot so hopefully next season I’ll improve on that. I’ve got 3 this season, but I only got 1 the season before so at least I’ve tripled it this year! If I triple it again next season I’ll be happy.’

How do you think the last season went for you?
‘It has been an up and down season, but I think it’s all about how you deal with that as a person. I’ve learnt a lot over the last season, playing so much, so I’m really happy with that.’

What was it like to be chosen for the England squad?
‘It was fantastic to get that opportunity, to play for your country is a great honour, and I really hope that I’ll get that opportunity again in the future. If I keep playing well and working hard, hopefully that’ll happen. It was a bit different training with England, luckily there was a couple of people that I knew from the U21s. The lads were fine with us, made me feel really welcome, so I really enjoyed it. I was only there for about 3 days I think, so hopefully I can get a bit more involved in the future.’

And are you looking forward to being involved in the U21s tournament?
‘I’m really looking forward to it, it’s the biggest thing happening this summer so it’s great to be a part of it. It’s a huge tournament, and there’s plenty of players in the squad that have a decent amount of first team experience. England have got a good squad, a good group as well, but we’re not one of the favourites so we’ll just go in with your own mentality and take it game by game.’

After all this football, are you looking forward to some time off?
‘I’ve got nothing planned yet, just looking at the Euros for now and after that I’ll think about a holiday!’

And what about next season?
‘I do set myself targets on what I want to achieve, but the most important thing is to do everything in pre-season so you’re ready to go from the first game of the season. I know I still need to improve as a player, so I’m just looking to work hard and make those steps.

Thanks to Jordan for taking the time to speak to us. For more information on the Geometra, take a look at the pictures on our Flickr feed, or head to Umbro.com

Umbro Geometra: the lowdown on our new boot

Umbro’s boot range has always been a byword for quality and tailoring expertise thanks to the Speciali and the Umbro GT, and we’re very pleased to reveal the latest design to join the ranks – the Geometra. Specifically designed for the visionary in the team, the Geometra combines that heritage that Umbro has always been known for with the very latest in football performance technology. The result is a boot that’s sure to be popular with players who want to lead the way on the pitch and let their football do the talking.

Worn by players such as England and Liverpool midfield star Jordan Henderson, the Umbro Geometra features a number of design innovations, including a memory foam ‘pass pad’ on the instep to aid control. Also featuring a silicon-bonded grip zone for improved touch, the Geometra is crafted from a thicker full grain ceramic leather for improved strength and protection.

One of the Geometra’s most innovative aspects is the stud configuration, which was inspired by the shoes worn by squash players. Featuring a pivot zone pressure point, the design allows players to turn quicker, giving you more time to turn away from trouble or find that perfect pass.

Comfort is also an important factor for any boot, and the Geometra has laces built into the side of the shoe and a built in sock liner to keep your feet happy. In a white, black and red colourway, they’ll be looking pretty good as well. Helping you to stay in control on the pitch, the Geometra is sure to become another classic boot in the Umbro collection.
