We’ve been absolutely overwhelmed with the amount of votes we’ve had for this – but we also realise that there was a lot of internet organisation and sneaky skullduggery afoot, from both sides. Morecambe fans, if you’re going to rally your fans through ShrimpsVoices, that’s fine, but getting Man United fans to vote against their rivals City? That’s low. Perhaps you thought you were the Rage Against The Machine to City’s Joe McElderry? One Shrimps fan even sank low enough to admit that “I even claimed to be a …errr… Man Utd supporter. Oh the shame.”

Perhaps you should have asked your United supporting pals to be a bit more subtle about it as well? Posting comments proclaiming their love for United is a bit of a clue that they’re not really voting for the kit that they like! Anyway, at the end of the day it’s only a bit of fun, and we can only commend your powers of persuasion across the internet. Yep, as you can see from the results below, the League Two team pulled off the win, by a measly six votes. The kit – which Morecambe wore when they won the Play Offs in 2007, gaining entry to the Football League for the first time in their history – obviously means a lot to Shrimps fans. There’s probably a lot of personal allegiances that will come into play with this vote, but for any neutrals out there it’s a battle between two clean, simple designs that evoke the history of each club. We’re into the closing stages of the Decade Of Kits competition now, with the six remaining kits facing off this week for a place in next week’s three man final. We’ve paired the remaining shirts off against what we think are their closest competitors, with the two remaining England shirts first to do battle. Here’s the five kits that have won through to the next round of our Decade Of Kits competition, plus our wildcard – Manchester City’s current home shirt. We decided to include this shirt because of an error in the first round, in which this shirt received more votes than its competitors, but they weren’t added to the poll until after voting closed. Apologies for the mistake, but at least fans of that shirt now get a second chance to vote for the City shirt!

The next round of voting will begin next week, with the shirts once again pairing off against one another to reach the final. But who will win – the classic England shirt inspired by St George, or the new, Tailored strip? Chelsea’s simple, classy design, or the elegance of City’s latest strip? Morecambe home or, erm, away?
