A reason to get pre-ordering…

If you’re still wondering whether to pre-order the new City home shirt and be in with a chance of grabbing tickets for ‘Live from City’, here’s one reason to get ordering:

This is Kid British on Big Brother’s Big Mouth from a couple of weeks ago. (And yes, that is a blue moon t-shirt you see.) They, along with a host of other acts, will be kicking off the release of the new kit and it looks like it will be well worth catching.

MCFC kit update

Manchester City Home Kit 2009 Umbro Label

It’s been almost a month since the new, Umbro tailored, City kit was officially launched and it’s probably about time we updated you on some of the burning questions concerning the shirts.

Firstly, the home kit will be available to pre-order from July 1st (yes, that’s tomorrow) from the club’s brilliant new website. General release of the shirt will be July 18th. Many have been wondering where the shirts can be purchased from and it will be through official MCFC retail outlets only. That’ll be at the stadium store, in the Arndale Centre and via the mcfc.co.uk online shop, then.

One thing many have asked about is the chest sizing of the new shirts - especially if you do intend to pre-order and give yourself a chance of getting tickets for the ‘Live from City’ gig. Knowing if you’re a straightforward S,M,L etc. won’t cut it anymore as these shirts, like England’s, are a tailored cut. But don’t worry. If getting yourself measured up is posing a little too much to think about, here’s a rough guide to sizing:

Finally, the kit launch posters have been gaining a fair bit of recognition and many are keen to get their hands on the artwork. We’ve already put the original posters up on our flickr page but now we have desktop wallpapers to offer you. Thanks to Rick for sending them to us!

The Doves Receive their Umbro and MCFC Blue moon T-Shirts and talk about the Live from City Gig

The Doves recive their Blue Moon T-shirts from Umbro and Manchester City and talk about playing the Live from the City gig.

‘Live from City’ MCFC and Umbro Gig

MCFC Live From City

So, you are patiently waiting for the new City kit to come out, to finally see it in all its glory. We know it has been a long few weeks and that it isn’t going to get any easier as the anticipation builds. For that reason, Umbro and MCFC see it as only fair to reward the City fans with something really quite special.

In a nutshell: Live from City, a gig featuring some of Manchester’s biggest music acts past, present and future. It takes place on Friday 17th July direct from the City of Manchester Stadium.

On the bill are:

Doves, a band, originating from Manchester, who have been on the music scene for well over a decade and still going strong.

A DJ set from Mike Pickering. A key figure within the ‘Madchester’ movement — yes he was there during the rise of the Hacienda.

Twisted Wheel: an Oldham three piece who, in a space of 12 months, have seen a sharp rise in their success culminating in a record deal.

Kid British, yet another ‘band to watch’ from the City. They have already helped get the launch of the kit underway with a mini set, at the start of the month.

Finally, The Answering Machine. They formed at the University of Manchester and have already performed at Glastonbury – before even releasing an album.

I think it’s fair to say that the line-up is pretty strong but it gets better. Tickets to this event are free to the first 2500 people who pre-order the new MCFC home shirt from the club website.

Not bad, if you ask me. Ensuring you get your kit on the day of release and, in return, enjoying some of the best music the City has to offer.

The Umbro Fives Final Round-up

The final of The FA Umbro Fives tournament took place on Saturday so here is a quick round-up..

Men’s

The 2009 crown was won by Ballers.com from London. They beat 2007 winners MDU (also from London) in the final with the game going all the way to penalties after the sides could not be separated following a 2-2 extra time draw.

Ballers.com battled through a semi final victory over 2008 Champions Real Balers and perennial Fives qualifiers Galacticos in the quarter finals. Earlier in the day Ballers.com thrashed Nike 5’s champions FC Fodder 5-1 in the group stages but stumbled against Maidstone team Sons of a Pitch losing 3-1. Ballers.com also recorded victories over Nike 5’s finalists Harlem and Lucky Break before lifting the rather impressive and heavy UMBRO Fives trophy in the glorious Wembley sunshine.

The only consolation for losing finalists MDU came when their star player Rob Ursell was voted player of the tournament.

Women’s

The women’s competition saw The FA Premier League’s Watford Ladies lifting the trophy for the second time following their inaugural win in 2007. Watford were made to battle all the way in the final which went to extra time before they finally overcame TNS Shrewsbury Town 2-1 with a late goal in a match which looked destined to go to penalties. Neither Watford nor TNS won their group after both teams had been beaten in the group games by NE Danger and Curzon Ashton Ladies respectively.

Lucky 8

Luton team Daily Stars triumphed in the Lucky 8 competition – after previously going out of the 2009 FA UMBRO Fives. Daily Stars were one of those drawn at random, to take part in the Lucky 8 event and they didn’t look a gift horse in the mouth. The side won every one of their matches on the hallowed turf – recording a double over Thorney Bay, who they beat 1-0 in the group stage and then 2-0 in the final.

New kit launch posters

Any regulars to this blog (and MCFC forums) will know about our Blue Moon artwork to mark the launch of the home kit. However, it isn’t the only new Manchester City strip to be coming out. Therefore, it is only fair that each of the new kits (including the drill top) gets in on the poster action. Some of you eagle-eyed readers may have already spotted the new artwork around Manchester:

Blue Moons Spread

Slowly, but surely, Blue Moons are beginning to appear across Manchester. Have you spotted them?  Gareth Brooks, Xfm DJ and big City fan, has joined the cause and has been kind enough to send us pictures of his efforts.

Wembley Competition Day

Last Tuesday we had a trip down to Wembely for a day of football with our competition winners. The winners all received the full England experience, from their brand new England shirts and Speciali boots in the dressing room through to a full ninety minutes on the pitch with professional reffs and linesmen. The sun was shining and the pitch was in excellent condition which made for two great games of football!

Umbro Wembley Football Game

In the morning winners from our England competition from our Shoredidtch Energy space played a team of friends of Umbro. Justin Warren won the competition for the chance for him and the rest of Team Aspire to play. Then steered his side to a 3-0 victory in the morning, scoring a 30 yard screamer himself.  Justin’s son, 11 year old Jabob also had a run out for the last ten minutes and scored in the last minute of the game to seal the victory!

In the afternoon Frenford Senior FC, winners of the Club Website competition played an Umbro, Club Website and friends team. Embarrassingly they hammered the Umbro team 8-0. I have been hearing some feeble excuses from the Umbro camp over the last week, but there was no denying that Frenford Senior FC was the better team on the day. However, both competition winner teams wore the New England home kit and were given Speciali boots. So possibly it was the feeling of smartness down to the tailored fit that gave them a competitive advantage!

City Crest Follow up

 Manchester City 2009 Away Crest

Following on from the post on the MCFC club crest, I have a big thanks to say to those of you who filled in the gaps in my information (it appears there were quite a few). The comments concerning trademark issues were particularly interesting to read. I knew the City Crest was a point of discussion but not to the extent that I have now seen!
